Nawabganj Government College is one of the most prominent educational institutions in Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh. Founded in 1955, it has served as a beacon of higher education and intellectual growth for generations. The college is affiliated with the National University of Bangladesh and offers Higher Secondary, Undergraduate (Pass and Honours), and Master’s programs across various disciplines. With over 10,000 students currently enrolled, the institution stands as a hub for academic excellence in the region. Located in Kathalbari under Chapainawabganj Municipality, the college is known for its spacious campus, academic resources, and commitment to nation-building through education. Led by Principal Professor Md. Abdul Awal and Vice Principal Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, the college continues to set standards in quality education and student development.
The roots of Nawabganj Government College trace back to the post-partition era when local education enthusiasts realized the need for a higher education institution in Chapainawabganj. The college began its journey in 1955, initially operating morning shifts from the premises of Harimohan Institution. The first principal, Md. Monimul Haque, played a vital role in shaping its early academic and administrative structure. The growing demand for formal education eventually led to the expansion of the college’s curriculum and facilities. On May 7, 1979, a milestone was achieved when the institution was officially nationalized, earning the title 'Nawabganj Government College'. This recognition marked a new chapter in its journey toward becoming a center of academic distinction in the Rajshahi division.
Today, Nawabganj Government College continues to uphold its legacy while preparing for the future. The college currently offers Honours courses in 14 subjects and Master’s programs in 4 disciplines, reflecting its commitment to diverse and inclusive higher education. It also fosters extracurricular activities, cultural engagement, and social responsibility, producing graduates who contribute significantly to national progress. With over 150 faculty members and a rapidly modernizing campus, including smart classrooms and updated resources, the institution is embracing innovation while preserving its academic traditions. Nawabganj Government College remains not just an academic institution but a symbol of pride and progress for the region, nurturing future leaders and intellectuals who embody the motto: 'Knowledge is Power'.
